Engineering geology is defined in the statutes of the IAEG as the science devoted to the investigation, study and solution of engineering and environmental problems which may arise as the result of the interaction between geology and the works or activities of man, as well as of the prediction of and development of measures for the prevention or remediation of geological hazards. Engineering geology embraces: • the applications/implications of the geomorphology, structural geology, and hydrogeological conditions of geological formations; • the characterisation of the mineralogical, physico-geomechanical, chemical and hydraulic properties of all earth materials involved in construction, resource recovery and environmental change; • the assessment of the mechanical and hydrological behaviour of soil and rock masses; • the prediction of changes to the above properties with time; • the determination of the parameters to be considered in the stability analysis of engineering works and earth masses.

IEEE Systems Journal

This publication provides a systems-level, focused forum for application-oriented manuscripts that address complex systems and system-of-systems of national and global significance. It intends to encourage and facilitate cooperation and interaction among IEEE Societies with systems-level and systems engineering interest, and to attract non-IEEE contributors and readers from around the globe. Our IEEE Systems Council job is to address issues in new ways that are not solvable in the domains of the existing IEEE or other societies or global organizations. These problems do not fit within traditional hierarchical boundaries. For example, disaster response such as that triggered by Hurricane Katrina, tsunamis, or current volcanic eruptions is not solvable by pure engineering solutions. We need to think about changing and enlarging the paradigm to include systems issues.

IET Nanobiotechnology

Wiley•ISSN: 1751-8741 / 1751-875X•England
4.8
Clarivate IF

Electrical and electronic engineers have a long and illustrious history of contributing new theories and technologies to the biomedical sciences. This includes the cable theory for understanding the transmission of electrical signals in nerve axons and muscle fibres; dielectric techniques that advanced the understanding of cell membrane structures and membrane ion channels; electron and atomic force microscopy for investigating cells at the molecular level. Other engineering disciplines, along with contributions from the biological, chemical, materials and physical sciences, continue to provide groundbreaking contributions to this subject at the molecular and submolecular level. Our subject now extends from single molecule measurements using scanning probe techniques, through to interactions between cells and microstructures, micro- and nano-fluidics, and aspects of lab-on-chip technologies. The primary aim of IET Nanobiotechnology is to provide a vital resource for academic and industrial researchers operating in this exciting cross-disciplinary activity. We can only achieve this by publishing cutting edge research papers and expert review articles from the international engineering and scientific community. To attract such contributions we will exercise a commitment to our authors by ensuring that their manuscripts receive rapid constructive peer opinions and feedback across interdisciplinary boundaries. IET Nanobiotechnology covers all aspects of research and emerging technologies including, but not limited to: Fundamental theories and concepts applied to biomedical-related devices and methods at the micro- and nano-scale (including methods that employ electrokinetic, electrohydrodynamic, and optical trapping techniques) Micromachining and microfabrication tools and techniques applied to the top-down approach to nanobiotechnology Nanomachining and nanofabrication tools and techniques directed towards biomedical and biotechnological applications (e.g. applications of atomic force microscopy, scanning probe microscopy and related tools) Colloid chemistry applied to nanobiotechnology (e.g. cosmetics, suntan lotions, bio-active nanoparticles) Biosynthesis (also known as green synthesis) of nanoparticles; to be considered for publication, research papers in this area must be directed principally towards biomedical research and especially if they encompass in vivo models or proofs of concept. We welcome papers that are application-orientated or offer new concepts of substantial biomedical importance Techniques for probing cell physiology, cell adhesion sites and cell-cell communication Molecular self-assembly, including concepts of supramolecular chemistry, molecular recognition, and DNA nanotechnology Societal issues such as health and the environment Special issues. Food and Bioproducts Processing

Institution of Chemical Engineers•ISSN: 0960-3085 / 1744-3571•England
4.7
Clarivate IF

Official Journal of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering: Part C FBP aims to be the principal international journal for publication of high quality, original papers in the branches of engineering and science dedicated to the safe processing of biological products. It is the only journal to exploit the synergy between biotechnology, bioprocessing and food engineering. Papers showing how research results can be used in engineering design, and accounts of experimental or theoretical research work bringing new perspectives to established principles, highlighting unsolved problems or indicating directions for future research, are particularly welcome. Contributions that deal with new developments in equipment or processes and that can be given quantitative expression are encouraged. The journal is especially interested in papers that extend the boundaries of food and bioproducts processing. The journal has a strong emphasis on the interface between engineering and food or bioproducts. Papers that are not likely to be published are those: • Primarily concerned with food formulation • That use experimental design techniques to obtain response surfaces but gain little insight from them • That are empirical and ignore established mechanistic models, e.g., empirical drying curves • That are primarily concerned about sensory evaluation and colour • Concern the extraction, encapsulation and/or antioxidant activity of a specific biological material without providing insight that could be applied to a similar but different material, • Containing only chemical analyses of biological materials.

4.7
Clarivate IF

The International Journal of Refractory Metals and Hard Materials (IJRMHM) publishes original research articles concerned with all aspects of refractory metals and hard materials. Refractory metals are defined as metals with melting points higher than 1800 °C. These are tungsten, molybdenum, chromium, tantalum, niobium, hafnium, and rhenium, as well as many compounds and alloys based thereupon. Hard materials that are included in the scope of this journal are defined as materials with hardness values higher than 1000 kg/mm2, primarily intended for applications as manufacturing tools or wear resistant components in mechanical systems. Thus they encompass carbides, nitrides and borides of metals, and related compounds. A special focus of this journal is put on the family of hardmetals, which is also known as cemented tungsten carbide, and cermets which are based on titanium carbide and carbonitrides with or without a metal binder. Ceramics and superhard materials including diamond and cubic boron nitride may also be accepted provided the subject material is presented as hard materials as defined above.
