Fractals-Complex Geometry Patterns and Scaling in Nature and Society

World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte Ltd•ISSN: 0218-348X / 1793-6543•Singapore
2.9
Clarivate IF

The investigation of phenomena involving complex geometry, patterns and scaling has gone through a spectacular development and applications in the past decades. For this relatively short time, geometrical and/or temporal scaling have been shown to represent the common aspects of many processes occurring in an unusually diverse range of fields including physics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, economics, engineering and technology, and human behavior. As a rule, the complex nature of a phenomenon is manifested in the underlying intricate geometry which in most of the cases can be described in terms of objects with non-integer (fractal) dimension. In other cases, the distribution of events in time or various other quantities show specific scaling behavior, thus providing a better understanding of the relevant factors determining the given processes. Using fractal geometry and scaling as a language in the related theoretical, numerical and experimental investigations, it has been possible to get a deeper insight into previously intractable problems. Among many others, a better understanding of growth phenomena, turbulence, iterative functions, colloidal aggregation, biological pattern formation, stock markets and inhomogeneous materials has emerged through the application of such concepts as scale invariance, self-affinity and multifractality. The main challenge of the journal devoted exclusively to the above kinds of phenomena lies in its interdisciplinary nature; it is our commitment to bring together the most recent developments in these fields so that a fruitful interaction of various approaches and scientific views on complex spatial and temporal behaviors in both nature and society could take place.

Psychometrika

Springer US•ISSN: 0033-3123 / 1860-0980•United States
2.9
Clarivate IF

The journal Psychometrika is devoted to the advancement of theory and methodology for behavioral data in psychology, education and the social and behavioral sciences generally. Its coverage is offered in two sections: Theory and Methods (T& M), and Application Reviews and Case Studies (ARCS). T&M articles present original research and reviews on the development of quantitative models, statistical methods, and mathematical techniques for evaluating data from psychology, the social and behavioral sciences and related fields. Application Reviews can be integrative, drawing together disparate methodologies for applications, or comparative and evaluative, discussing advantages and disadvantages of one or more methodologies in applications. Case Studies highlight methodology that deepens understanding of substantive phenomena through more informative data analysis, or more elegant data description.

Clarivate IF

Foundations of Computational Mathematics (FoCM) will publish research and survey papers of the highest quality which further the understanding of the connections between mathematics and computation. The journal aims to promote the exploration of all fundamental issues underlying the creative tension among mathematics, computer science and application areas unencumbered by any external criteria such as the pressure for applications. The journal will thus serve an increasingly important and applicable area of mathematics. The journal hopes to further the understanding of the deep relationships between mathematical theory: analysis, topology, geometry and algebra, and the computational processes as they are evolving in tandem with the modern computer. With its distinguished editorial board selecting papers of the highest quality and interest from the international community, FoCM hopes to influence both mathematics and computation. Relevance to applications will not constitute a requirement for the publication of articles. The journal does not accept code for review however authors who have code/data related to the submission should include a weblink to the repository where the data/code is stored.

Since its first formulation quantum chemistry has provided the conceptual and terminological framework necessary to understand atoms, molecules and the condensed matter. Over the past decades synergistic advances in the methodological developments, software and hardware have transformed quantum chemistry in a truly interdisciplinary science that has expanded beyond its traditional core of molecular sciences to fields as diverse as chemistry and catalysis, biophysics, nanotechnology and material science.

Spatial Statistics

Elsevier BV•ISSN: 2211-6753•England
2.7
Clarivate IF

Spatial Statistics publishes articles on the theory and application of spatial and spatio-temporal statistics. It favours manuscripts that present theory generated by new applications, or in which new theory is applied to an important practical case. A purely theoretical study will only rarely be accepted. Pure case studies without methodological development are not acceptable for publication. Spatial statistics concerns the quantitative analysis of spatial and spatio-temporal data, including their statistical dependencies, accuracy and uncertainties. Methodology for spatial statistics is typically found in probability theory, stochastic modelling and mathematical statistics as well as in information science. Spatial statistics is used in mapping, assessing spatial data quality, sampling design optimisation, modelling of dependence structures, and drawing of valid inference from a limited set of spatio-temporal data.

Journal of Nonlinear Science

Springer US•ISSN: 0938-8974 / 1432-1467•United States
2.6
Clarivate IF

The mission of the Journal of Nonlinear Science is to publish papers that augment the fundamental ways we describe, model, and predict nonlinear phenomena. Papers should make an original contribution to at least one technical area and should in addition illuminate issues beyond that area's boundaries. Even excellent papers in a narrow field of interest are not appropriate for the journal. Papers can be oriented toward theory, experimentation, algorithms, numerical simulations, or applications as long as the work is creative and sound. Excessively theoretical work in which the application to natural phenomena is not apparent (at least through similar techniques) or in which the development of fundamental methodologies is not present is probably not appropriate. In turn, papers oriented toward experimentation, numerical simulations, or applications must not simply report results without an indication of what a theoretical explanation might be. All papers should be submitted in English and must meet common standards of usage and grammar. In addition, because ours is a multidisciplinary subject, at minimum the introduction to the paper should be readable to a broad range of scientists and not only to specialists in the subject area. The scientific importance of the paper and its conclusions should be made clear in the introduction-this means that not only should the problem you study be presented, but its historical background, its relevance to science and technology, the specific phenomena it can be used to describe or investigate, and the outstanding open issues related to it should be explained. Failure to achieve this could disqualify the paper.

SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization

Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics Publications•ISSN: 0363-0129 / 1095-7138•United States
2.6
Clarivate IF

SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization (SICON) publishes original research articles on the mathematics and applications of control theory and certain parts of optimization theory. Papers considered for publication must be significant at both the mathematical level and the level of applications or potential applications. Papers containing mostly routine mathematics or those with no discernible connection to control and systems theory or optimization will not be considered for publication. From time to time, the journal will also publish authoritative surveys of important subject areas in control theory and optimization whose level of maturity permits a clear and unified exposition. The broad areas mentioned above are intended to encompass a wide range of mathematical techniques and scientific, engineering, economic, and industrial applications. These include stochastic and deterministic methods in control, estimation, and identification of systems; modeling and realization of complex control systems; the numerical analysis and related computational methodology of control processes and allied issues; and the development of mathematical theories and techniques that give new insights into old problems or provide the basis for further progress in control theory and optimization. Within the field of optimization, the journal focuses on the parts that are relevant to dynamic and control systems. Contributions to numerical methodology are also welcome in accordance with these aims, especially as related to large-scale problems and decomposition as well as to fundamental questions of convergence and approximation.
