British Politics

Springer Nature•ISSN: 1746-918X / 1746-9198•United Kingdom
1.3
Clarivate IF

British Politics offers the only forum explicitly designed to promote research in British political studies, and seeks to provide a counterweight to the growing fragmentation of this field during recent years. To this end, the journal aims to promote a more holistic understanding of British politics by encouraging a closer integration between theoretical and empirical research, between historical and contemporary analyses, and by fostering a conception of British politics as a broad and multi-disciplinary field of study. This incorporates a range of sub-fields, including psephology, policy analysis, regional studies, comparative politics, institutional analysis, political theory, political economy, historical analysis, cultural studies and social policy. While recognising the validity and the importance of research into specific aspects of British politics, the journal takes it to be a guiding principle that such research is more useful, and indeed meaningful, if it is related to the field of British politics in a broader and fuller sense. The scope of the journal will therefore be broad, incorporating a range of research papers and review articles from all theoretical perspectives, and on all aspects of British politics, including policy developments, institutional change and political behaviour. Priority will, however, be given to contributions which link contemporary developments in British politics to theoretical and/or historical analyses. The aim is as much to encourage the development of empirical research that is theoretically rigorous and informed, as it is to encourage the empirical application of theoretical work (or at least to encourage theorists to explicitly signify how their work could be applied in an empirical manner).

Interest Groups & Advocacy

Springer Nature•ISSN: 2047-7414 / 2047-7422•United Kingdom
1.3
Clarivate IF

Interest Groups & Advocacy will engage broadly with the politics of interests. It will record and analyze how advocacy by groups, movements and lobbying professionals shapes policy, and it will address important debates about how such interests are mobilized and maintained. It will cast a wide net across politics and society to identify the forces, strategies, and tactics that determine policy change. Open to diverse methodologies, it welcomes studies that address theoretical issues, report rigorous empirical work, and deliver insight on the range of change agents and their behaviour and impact. Although this is a field traditionally dominated by American political science, in recent years there has been a widening geographical range as scholarly attention has reflected the growth of numbers, lobbyists have proliferated, and spending has increased in Europe, and in many states, provinces and localities around the world. Such territorial expansion of focus has been accompanied by broadened interest in the number and type of advocacy organizations, (far from the textbook stereotypes of interest groups), such as multi-national corporations, NGOs, and social movements, that seek to influence public policies. With the active assistance of a diverse and experienced editorial board, the Editors explicitly seek to create a visible, well-regarded journal with the highest standards. Whether in addressing historical issues or recent events, prospective articles should be sophisticated and of interest to a wide audience. We seek incisive, well-researched, and well-written articles. These qualities are especially important given our desire to attract contributions and attention from practitioners in the worlds of lobbying and group organization. Alongside the Editorial Board there is a Practice Panel to ensure our contents are credible in the world of practice. Although this journal is anchored within political science, these aims will not be addressed satisfactorily without submissions from other disciplines, such as economics, sociology, law, and history. Social movement scholarship clearly falls under the broad field; likewise, public affairs makes up a major component of the process of competitive advocacy that is now commonplace as a proxy for democratic contestation. The Editors and the editorial board welcome contributions in this broad area and intend to respond promptly to authors, with a goal of communicating decisions in no more than six weeks. Although these matters have long received scholarly attention, they have never commanded the attention of a single journal and specialist reviewing. We look forward to establishing Interest Groups & Advocacy as this focal point.

Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy

Springer Nature•ISSN: 0370-0046•India
1.3
Clarivate IF

The National Institute of Sciences of India, now the Indian National Science Academy, was inaugurated on 7 January 1935 at Calcutta and commissioned its journal, Proceedings of the National Institute of Sciences of India, in the same year for publishing articles from all branches of Science including Mathematics. As the number of accepted papers increased, the journal was bifurcated in 1955 into two parts - Part A (Physical Sciences) and Part B (Biological Sciences). When the National Institute of Sciences of India was renamed as Indian National Science Academy in 1970, the journal became Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy. It continued to be published in two parts with six issues each in a calendar year. In 1997, the Academy decided to publish only review articles of contemporary scientific interest, evaluating advances and newer approaches in the given field. The emphasis thus shifted from being a vehicle of original research reports into one of reviews, and comprehensive summary reports on chosen topics. Thus from the beginning of January 1998,the Proceedings brought out thematic issues containing invited reviews on current scientific topics. Beginning from the year 2006, the Academy merged the Parts A and B so that each issue of the Proceedings is inter-disciplinary and covers areas under Physical, Biological and Applied Sciences, including Engineering. Four issues are brought out in the months of March, June, September and December each year. The Proceedings now includes Reviews, Original Research Articles, Commentaries/Opinion/Reflection, Meeting Reports, Book-Reviews, Academy News etc. Reviews and Research papers in Physics, Chemical Sciences, Earth & Planetary Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Material Sciences & Engineering, Plant Sciences, Animal Sciences, Microbiology & Immunology, Cell & Biomolecular Sciences, Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences are considered for publication.

Berliner Journal Fur Soziologie

Springer Nature•ISSN: 0863-1808 / 1862-2593•Germany
1.2
Clarivate IF

Berliner Journal für Soziologie (“Berlin Journal of Sociology”), edited by the Institute of Sociology at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and the Institute of Social Sciences at the Humboldt University Berlin, publishes double-blind peer-reviewed articles on classical and modern theoretical approaches, essays on current problem areas of sociological discourse, and research notes presenting new empirical findings. Focussed issues and review essays reflect innovative developments within the German and international social sciences and inform about the state of research in central areas of sociology. The journal was founded in 1991 on the initiative of the East German Society of Sociology. It views itself as a general sociological journal that publishes contributions from all research and subject areas of sociology. From the very beginning, the programmatic aim has been to provide a forum for the discussion and further development of sociological problems in the light of contemporary theoretical and social developments. Two major topics have been at the journal's core and will continue to shape its contents in the future: Transformation and Culture. The journal deals with the socio-ecological upheaval that modern societies are undergoing. Globalisation, changes in working society and lifestyles, digitalisation, social conflicts up to new wars, new challenges for democracy, populism and nationalism as well as gender relations are important topics of a renewed Great Transformation. Cultural sociology and comparative cultural research deal with developments in these fields in a special way. The BJS therefore continues to devote its attention to such perspectives.

Biosocieties

Springer Nature•ISSN: 1745-8552 / 1745-8560•United Kingdom
1.2
Clarivate IF

BioSocieties is committed to the scholarly exploration of the crucial social, ethical and policy implications of developments in the life sciences and biomedicine. These developments are increasing our ability to control our own biology; enabling us to create novel life forms; changing our ideas of ‘normality’ and ‘abnormality’; transforming our understanding of personal identity, family relations, ancestry and ‘race’; altering our social and personal expectations and responsibilities; reshaping global economic opportunities and inequalities; creating new global security challenges; and generating new social, ethical, legal and regulatory dilemmas. To address these dilemmas requires us to break out from narrow disciplinary boundaries within the social sciences and humanities, and between these disciplines and the natural sciences, and to develop new ways of thinking about the relations between biology and sociality and between the life sciences and society. BioSocieties provides a crucial forum where the most rigorous social research and critical analysis of these issues can intersect with the work of leading scientists, social researchers, clinicians, regulators and other stakeholders. BioSocieties defines the key intellectual issues at the science-society interface, and offers pathways to the resolution of the critical local, national and global socio-political challenges that arise from scientific and biomedical advances. As the first journal of its kind, BioSocieties publishes scholarship across the social science disciplines, and represents a lively and balanced array of perspectives on controversial issues. In its inaugural year BioSocieties demonstrated the constructive potential of interdisciplinary dialogue and debate across the social and natural sciences. We are becoming the journal of choice not only for social scientists, but also for life scientists interested in the larger social, ethical and policy implications of their work. The journal is international in scope, spanning research and developments in all corners of the globe. BioSocieties is published quarterly, with occasional themed issues that highlight some of the critical questions and problematics of modern biotechnologies. Articles, response pieces, review essays, and self-standing editorial pieces by social and life scientists form a regular part of the journal.
