Critique:Journal of Socialist Theory is an independent, refereed, scholarly journal founded in 1973. It attempts to analyse contemporary society from a critical Marxist perspective. Critique takes the view that Marxism has been so degraded by the Stalinist period that much of what has passed for Marxism has ranged between incoherent nonsense and empty if complex scholastic schema. Since socialism in one country is a theoretical and practical impossibility, Critique rejected and continues to reject analyses purporting to show this or that country is or was socialist. Furthermore, Critique emphatically insists on the impossibility of an undemocratic socialism.

Critical Quarterly is internationally renowned for it unique blend of literary criticism, cultural studies, poetry and fiction. The journal addresses the whole range of cultural forms so that discussions of, for example, cinema and television can appear alongside analyses of the accepted literary canon. It is a necessary condition of debate in these areas that it should involve as many and as varied voices as possible, and Critical Quarterly welcomes submissions from new researchers and writers as well as more established contributors.

Over the half century of its existence this magazine has gone through a number of different stages, as each set of historical and cultural circumstances posed their own conditions and demands. At the current moment the magazine is a multidisciplinary publication which pays particular attention to cultural production in the Spanish language. Each issue contains a section on a figure or subject of special interest. The section «Points of view» offers monographs in the form of short essays, while «Callejero» (Street plan) provides up-to-date observations, placing special emphasis on material from Spain and Latin-American countries. A regular space is given over to the translation of literary works into Spanish.

Since its launch in 1970, the Irish University Review has sought to foster and publish the best scholarly research and critical debate in Irish literary and cultural studies. The first issue contained contributions by Austin Clarke, John Montague, Sean O"Faolain, and Conor Cruise O"Brien, among others. Today, the journal publishes the best literary and cultural criticism by established and emerging scholars in Irish Studies. It is published twice annually, in the Spring and Autumn of each year. The journal is based in University College Dublin, where it was founded in 1970 by Professor Maurice Harmon, who edited the journal from 1970 to 1987. It has subsequently been edited by Professor Christopher Murray (1987-1997).

MR also has a history of significant criticism of W.E.B. Dubois and Nathaniel Hawthorne. An Egypt issue, published just after 9/11 on social, national, religious, and ethnic concerns, encouraged readers to look beyond stereotypes of terrorism and racism. As part of the run-up to its Fiftieth birthday, MR published a landmark issue on queer studies at the beginning of 2008 (Volume 49 Issue 1&2). The Winter issue was a commemoration of Grace Paley, which is going to be followed by an anniversary issue, art exhibition, and poetry reading in April of 2009.

Meanjin was founded in Brisbane by Clem Christesen (the name, pronounced Mee-an-jin, is derived from an Aboriginal word for the finger of land on which central Brisbane sits) in 1940. It moved to Melbourne in 1945 at the invitation of the University of Melbourne. It currently receives funding from the university, the Literature Fund of the Australia Council for the Arts, CAL and Arts Victoria as well as receiving vital support through subscriptions and other sales.

The Missouri Review is a not-for-profit organization made possible in part by the generous support of readers and donors. We have helped shape the contemporary literary scene by offering the finest work of today’s most important writers and by discovering the brightest new voices in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Our mission is aided by one of the most established and sophisticated internship programs in the country. Each semester we mentor more than twenty undergraduate and graduate interns, many of whom go on to become editors in academia and the commercial publishing world. We believe this mission is as vital today as it was when the Missouri Review first began in 1978. And we would not be able to achieve these goals without the gifts and dedication we have received from individuals who appreciate and understand the importance of literature in our world.
