Research papers must make a significant and original contribution to microbiology and be of interest to a broad readership. The results of any experimental approach that meets these objectives are welcome, particularly biochemical, molecular genetic, physiological, and/or physical investigations into microbial cells and their interactions with their environments, including their eukaryotic hosts. Mini-reviews in areas of special topical interest and papers on medical microbiology, ecology and systematics, including description of novel taxa, are also published. Theoretical papers and those that report on the analysis or 'mining' of data are acceptable in principle if new information, interpretations, or hypotheses emerge.

Computational Biology and Chemistry

Elsevier Ltd•ISSN: 1476-9271•England
3.4
Clarivate IF

Computational Biology and Chemistry publishes original research papers and review articles in all areas of computational life sciences. High quality research contributions with a major computational component in the areas of nucleic acid and protein sequence research, molecular evolution, molecular genetics (functional genomics and proteomics), theory and practice of either biology-specific or chemical-biology-specific modeling, and structural biology of nucleic acids and proteins are particularly welcome. Exceptionally high quality research work in bioinformatics, systems biology, ecology, computational pharmacology, metabolism, biomedical engineering, epidemiology, and statistical genetics will also be considered. Given their inherent uncertainty, protein modeling and molecular docking studies should be thoroughly validated. In the absence of experimental results for validation, the use of molecular dynamics simulations along with detailed free energy calculations, for example, should be used as complementary techniques to support the major conclusions. Submissions of premature modeling exercises without additional biological insights will not be considered. Review articles will generally be commissioned by the editors and should not be submitted to the journal without explicit invitation. However prospective authors are welcome to send a brief (one to three pages) synopsis, which will be evaluated by the editors.

Articles reporting animal models relevant to human biology or disease are also welcome. Preference will be given to those articles which address clinically relevant questions or which provide new insights into human biology. Unless reporting entirely novel and unusual aspects of a topic, clinical case reports, cytogenetic case reports, papers on descriptive population genetics, articles dealing with the frequency of polymorphisms or additional mutations within genes in which numerous lesions have already been described, and papers that report meta-analyses of previously published datasets will normally not be accepted. The Journal typically will not consider for publication manuscripts that report merely the isolation, map position, structure, and tissue expression profile of a gene of unknown function unless the gene is of particular interest or is a candidate gene involved in a human trait or disorder.

Clarivate IF

Reproduction is the official journal of the Society of Reproduction and Fertility (SRF). It was formed in 2001 when the Society merged its two journals, the Journal of Reproduction and Fertility and Reviews of Reproduction. Reproduction publishes original research articles and topical reviews on the subject of reproductive and developmental biology, and reproductive medicine. The journal will consider publication of high-quality meta-analyses; these should be submitted to the research papers category. The journal considers studies in humans and all animal species, and will publish clinical studies if they advance our understanding of the underlying causes and/or mechanisms of disease. Scientific excellence and broad interest to our readership are the most important criteria during the peer review process. The journal publishes articles that make a clear advance in the field, whether of mechanistic, descriptive or technical focus. Articles that substantiate new or controversial reports are welcomed if they are noteworthy and advance the field. Topics include, but are not limited to, reproductive immunology, reproductive toxicology, stem cells, environmental effects on reproductive potential and health (eg obesity), extracellular vesicles, fertility preservation and epigenetic effects on reproductive and developmental processes.

Adverse reproductive effects in males will be considered as significant as adverse effects occurring in females. To provide a balanced presentation of approaches, equal emphasis will be given to clinical and animal or in vitro work. Typical end points that will be studied by contributors include infertility, sexual dysfunction, spontaneous abortion, malformations, abnormal histogenesis, stillbirth, intrauterine growth retardation, prematurity, behavioral abnormalities, and perinatal mortality.
