Forests, Trees and Livelihoods originated in 1979 under the name of the International Tree Crops Journal and adopted its new name in 2001 in order to reflect its emphasis on the diversity of tree based systems within the field of rural development. It is a peer-reviewed international journal publishing comments, reviews, case studies, research methodologies and research findings and articles on policies in this general field in order to promote discussion, debate and the exchange of information and views in the main subject areas of.

New Forests publishes original papers on the fundamental and applied aspects of afforestation and reforestation for a broad international audience of scientists and practitioners. Journal articles concern the reproduction of trees and forests originating from seed, planted seedlings or coppice for the purposes of resource protection, timber production, and agro-forestry. Natural and artificial methods of regeneration and all stand structures from even-aged to uneven-aged are considered. Topics include general silviculture, plant physiology, genetics, biotechnology, ecology, economics, protection, and management of all stages in the process of afforestation and reforestation.

This peer reviewed, highly specialized journal covers forest pathological problems occurring in any part of the world. Research and review articles, short communications and book reviews are addressed to the professional, working with forest tree diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, nematodes, viruses, and phytoplasms; their biology, morphology, and pathology; disorders arising from genetic anomalies and physical or chemical factors in the environment. The International Forestry Review is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal that publishes original research and review papers on forest policy and science, with an emphasis on issues of transnational significance. Journal of Forest Research publishes original articles, reviews, and short communications. It covers all aspects of forest research, both basic and applied, with the aim of encouraging international communication between scientists in different fields who share a common interest in forest science.

Tree-Ring Research (TRR) is devoted to papers dealing with the growth rings of trees and the applications of tree-ring research in a wide variety of fields, including but not limited to archaeology, geology, ecology, hydrology, climatology, forestry, and botany. Papers involving research results, new techniques of data acquisition or analysis, and regional or subject-oriented reviews or syntheses are considered for publication. Scientific papers usually fall into two main categories. Articles should not exceed 5000 words, or approximately 20 double-spaced typewritten pages, including tables, references, and an abstract of 200 words or fewer. All manuscripts submitted as Articles are reviewed by at least two referees. Research Reports, which are usually reviewed by at least one outside referee, should not exceed 1500 words or include more than two figures. Research Reports address technical developments, describe well-documented but preliminary research results, or present findings for which the Article format is not appropriate. Book or monograph Reviews of 500 words or less are also considered. Other categories of papers are occasionally published. All papers are published only in English. Abstracts of the Articles or Reports may be printed in other languages if supplied by the author(s) with English translations.

Original results of basic and applied research from all fields of forestry related to European forest ecosystems and their functions including those in the landscape and wood production chain are published in original scientific papers, short communications and review articles. Southern Forests: a Journal of Forest Science is one of the leading forestry journals in the Southern Hemisphere. The journal publishes scientific articles in forest science and management of fast-growing, planted or natural forests in the Southern Hemisphere and the tropics. Papers are also encouraged on related disciplines such as environmental aspects of forestry, social forestry, agroforestry, forest engineering and management as well as the goods and services that are derived from forests as a whole. Articles published by the journal are of value to foresters, resource managers and society at large. The journal particularly encourages contributions from South America, Africa and tropical/subtropical Australasia and Asia. Publication of the journal is supported by the Southern African Institute of Forestry.

The journal welcomes the original articles as well as short reports, review papers on forestry and forest science throughout the Baltic Sea region and elsewhere in the area of boreal and temperate forests. The Baltic Sea region is rather unique through its intrinsic environment and distinguished geographical and social conditions. A temperate climate, transitional and continental, has influenced formation of the mixed coniferous and deciduous stands of high productivity and biological diversity. The forest science has been affected by the ideas from both the East and West. In 1995, Forest Research Institutes and Universities from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania joined their efforts to publish BALTIC FORESTRY.

In 1947, the former Tropical Forest Technical Centre (CTFT), now part of CIRAD, created the journal Bois et Forêts des Tropiques. Since then, it has disseminated knowledge and research results on forests in intertropical and Mediterranean regions to more than sixty countries. The articles, peer evaluated and reviewed, are short, synthetic and accessible to researchers, engineers, technicians, students and decision-makers. Madera y Bosques (Wood and Forests) is a scientific periodical journal which has the objective of serving as media for scientific and technological research related to forest products, forest management and conservation as well as forest ecology topics and related subjects. It publishes original scientific papers, topical articles, scientific notes or bibliographic reviews. It is a quarterly publication that appears in Spring, Summer and Fall. Ocassionally, special Winter Issues are published. Manuscripts are accepted in Spanish, English and sporadically in other languages.
